Birthday party, Bike riding & homemade peach icecream!
Oct 22nd, 2009 by Melinda
I bought this cute shirt at Ross’s on Saturday with the intention of removing the bottom ruffle b/c it was making me look too much like a cupcake
It was really simple to remove with a razor
After I got ready, we headed to Mom & Dad’s to have another small birthday party for Dad (for those who missed the one in Asheville, N.C.)
We pulled up to this…Uncle Bobby & Dad shucking (is that the word for it?) peanuts- a friend of Uncle Bobby’s gave him these peanuts fresh off the farm
I’m not really a huge fan of boiled peanuts- I think it is mostly a southern thing-I’m not sure though
I felt like it was Thanksgiving
I had my Kashi Veggie meal, sweet potato w/organic sugar, organic kale & some fresh green beans- it was delish
Next, it was time for Dad to open some Birthday gifts/cards…
The popcorn & cotton candy are from Rebecca
Carol (Rebecca’s Mom) brought a carrot cake
I think Dad had a great Birthday this year- we had 2 birthday parties for him!
Rebecca helped Dad blow out his birthday candles
Here is the Birthday cake pre-candles- so pretty
This was the only picture Uncle Bobby let me take all weekend- he LOVES to pick on me! I told him he was going to miss shopping on “Melinda time” haha- he rushed me out of every store! He’s actually my only Uncle that I have around so I love hanging out with him
I skipped on the carrot cake- I’m trying to stay away from too much sugar- but it did look soo good!
Me & Rebecca decided to go for a bike ride around the neighborhood
Mom decided to come along as well- her bike is soo comfortable
And a side shot..
And later we all sat on the front porch and chatted & took lots more pictures..
Dad & the girls
And later, me & Rebecca had an apple eating frenzy w/organic peanut buttter (for me) & Nutella for her
Then we headed out again to ride bikes some more-it was the perfect day to be outside! We chatted about planning a slumber party the entire time we rode bikes-she asked me to be her new best friend/Aunt and I accepted of course
After bike riding, Uncle Bobby mentioned making homemade ice cream & we practically screamed yes!! We helped peel the peaches & I mixed up the hormone free milk w/organic sugar & egg beaters- now we just wait…
Rebecca modeled my cup of homemade peach ice cream w/fresh peaches on top- it was out of this world delicous!! That was pretty much my dinner & I had about 4 vegan sushi rolls later ![]()

Aww, fun celebration!
LOVE the top!!! Sounds like a great time–that house is gorgeous!
Awww happy birthday to him!! Looks like a fun time
Great pics- especially the cute biking ones! hehe I LOVE boiled peanuts - amazing!!
I think your blog is cute & really interesting! Hope you check mine out
ps i’m pretty jealous of the homemade ice cream
I love that your family has carrot cake for birthdays! That was the cake I picked out for my 6th grade graduation and still is a favorite of mine
Great idea to remove the ruffle! And I can’t believe you resisted that cake! Carrot cake is one of my faves. You have amazing willpower
